Peninsula Sailing Club

Meeting Minutes

January 13, 2009

In attendance:  Rich McCullough, Philip Bang, Beth and Mandy Munsch, Chris Quinn, Malcolm & Laurie Davis

Old business: Mandy and Beth are still in process of getting in touch with Steve Trunkey to get info for updating the PSC website.  Rich has a Frontpage disk that may work for editing web content. Mandy/Beth have set a goal of Valentine’s Day for accomplishing this.

There is nothing new to report on the club boat trailer. Rich is still looking for used steel. Malcolm says there is new stock available at a business in Gorst. C-channel 2” x 3/16” would be a good size to use. The bad spots on the trailer need to be cut out and new steel welded in. The lights on the trailer are functioning.

New business:  Rich asked for input on putting a posting on Craigslist to let people know about our club. He will hold off for now until our website has been updated.

Treasurer’s Report:

Total funds:  $2,123.70 and of that amount $845.00 is designated as the “New Boat Fund”.

2008 membership total was 18.

The next upcoming expense is the Port of Brownsville lease which will be about $625.

Port of Brownsville sent us a letter of appreciation for our participation in B.A.D.

Philip asked what our yearly membership numbers typically are. They have ranged from about a high of 24 to a low of 6 over approximately the past 10 years.

Beth suggested that Navy wives are a potential for new members. She also suggested having a meet & greet type of event. Details for such an event can be discussed at a future meeting.

No other new maintenance/facilities issues.

Discussed the need to come up with fundraising ideas for the new boat fund. What is the feasibility of giving scheduled lessons to new members? Would we charge them a flat fee or ask for a donation? The Birkenfeld Trust could still be a possibility for a grant. They prefer non- profits who are 501(c) 3 charitable organizations. We are a 501(c) 7 which is a social organization. Showing what we are doing for the community would help us when applying for a grant. Supporting this idea Laurie had previously suggested the club consider providing a scholarship to a student for sailing lessons with the Kitsap Sailing and Rowing Foundation in Silverdale.

Discussed topics for future meetings such as how to read charts, buoy colors, man overboard, advanced sailing maneuvers, Laser rigging, sail trim, or inviting guest speakers.

February’s meeting will be held on the Tuesday the 10th at 7:00 pm in the Deli at the Brownsville Marina.

Thanks to the Munsch family for hosting this month’s meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Laurie Davis
