Last month's meeting, Jan, was held at Beth Munsch's house. No info is available from that meeting except that 6 people showed up and the dessert was delicious.

From Malcolm

A date has been set for March 8th, Sunday, 2 pm, for the rigging on all the boats to be checked at the dock. Weather permitting, of course. We also will need to have the motor serviced before the sailing season starts. Last year it had been reported that a line had been leaking. Call Malcolm to let him know if you will be showing up on Sunday.

Re the Website

Rich has updated the contact info on the website for the board. Also redid the membership form. The minutes are being collected and posted on the web for easier access. Other items are being updated too. Beth is still interested in working on the web. If anyone else is interested, please let anyone on the board know.

NEW BUSINESS

Scholarship Proposed by Steve Trunkey. He proposed that the club pay for 2 foster kids to join the Kitsap Sailing & Rowning Club and maybe from Olympic High School too. The cost would be $89 per membership plus the cost of a PFD, estimated at a total of $120, which would just be for that school year. The benefit to the club would be that we would get publicity, generate interest in the club in the younger set and maybe make us more qualified for the Birkenfeld trust.

A motion was put forward to to sponsor one foster kid for the Kitap Sailing & Rowing Club. The motion was seconded and all voted in favor.

Port of Brownsville News

The sewer line had been installed to the old firestation. The Brownsville Marina's website can be checked for upcoming events.

The range for Keyport's torpedo testing has been extended to south of the marina, area of University Point. The range will be closed when the buoys are out and the Navy boats will be patroling the area. You will have to hug the southern shoreline to get in and out of the marina.

Birkenfeld Trust

It has been 2 years since the trust had come out and we had not qualified for it them. Rich will look into it again and see if anyting has changed and if we could now qualify.

Rich proposed a brainstorming session for the end of each meeting on selected subjects - to get different viewpoints, select the top ten or so best and then how to act on them.

Lesson for the week

How to safety dock and leave the dock. Rich gave out a handout with great diagrams of how to bring a sailboat safely to the dock and how to leave it.

Rules of the Road. Karen also had a handout of some of the more basic navigational rules of the road.

We will be trying to put the handouts on the website, under lessons, once we figure out how.
