July 2005 The Peninsula Sailing Club met the evening of July 12 on the dock at Brownsville. Eight members were present. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by Commodore Susan. Poor turnouts were reported for the recent social sail and race. It was reported however that individual members have been out sailing and enjoying the club boats.
New
Members Kelly Coady and Joel Hartz were welcomed aboard.
There was no report on the process of offering to buy the mast
and rigging sets from the owner in the San Juans. Steve or Ed:
Please report by next meeting.
It
was reported that the Burk Bay Sailing assoc. has disbanded due
to a number of members leaving the area.
Susan has a number of white tee shirts available with the PSC
logo on them. It was decided to offer them for sale to the
public through the Deli. Mick still has access to colored tee
shirts at a good price. Call him at 692-6208 if interested.
When 6 of these or other shirts are ready for logos we will send
them in.

Lasers are stored in the top of the blue tool box. Do
not take Lasers out without fitting drain plug. Always
remove plug before placing Laser in storage rack.

stitched on, we can send in an order. Contact Mick at
mickpizz@hotmail.com.
The Club decided not to
participate in the Whaling Days parade this year.
The Club voted to offer
$100 each for two C-Lark masts and accompanying rigging
available from a San Juan summer camp. Steve or Ed will
talk to the present owner.
Jim Mitchell has
qualified as a Skipper. Congratulations Jim!!
Susan floated the idea
of securing commercial sponsors for Club regattas or
events. We need to think about it.
Steve recommends

The April 12 meeting of the Peninsula Sailing Club was called to order by Commodore Susan Laraway at 7 PM at the Brownsville Deli. 6 members were present.
· Susan related that she is somewhat overstretched with here new job and is feeling that she is not doing what needs to be done for the Club. She has decided to contact Chris Quinn about sharing some Commodore duties. Laurie Davis volunteered to help by making bank deposits. Our bank is close to Laurie’s house. · The Club web page needs updating. Dan Diamond has volunteered to help. Susan will contact Dan with pass words etc. the Web page was set up in “Front Page” and may need that program to work on it. · OPEN HOUSE – the May 14 date is bad for both Susan and Steve. We discussed other dates, but none worked better. The open house is still planned for May 14, and will need member participants. · Report on the April 2 Dock Sale – The Club sold $493 worth of stuff, including the Zodiac and the storage box. · Laser Rack is now mostly finished. Steve plans some additional carpet at wear spots. Materials cost ran about $404. · Malcom has the Club outboard at the tune-up shop. He reports we will need a new gas tank.
Dates to remember: Ø April 30 – Dock work party to clean and refit boats. We plan to pull buoys off the masts and to re-enforce the transom on the aluminum boat. Ø May 10 – Club Meeting - 7 PM – on the dock (weather permitting). Last chance to organize for the open house Ø May 14 – Saturday – PSC Open House, our yearly effort to invite the community to experience sailing and join the Club. Ø May 22 – Sunday – The first social sail of the year. – Start at 1 PM. Ø June 1 – Wednedsay – The first evening race – Start at 7 PM. Remember to spread the attached Club fliers prior to the open house. New members keep the Club active and alive. There is still time to pay your 2005 dues. $95 for a family membership, $85 for a single membership, $60 for a junior membership. Respectfully, Art Schick
The Meeting of March 8, 2005 was called to order at about 7:10 PM by Commodore Susan Laraway in the Brownsville Deli. 8 members present.
o Susan will polish last year’s Club Flier. Art will distribute to members by E-mail. Each member is asked to print 5 copies and post at places calculated to bring in those new sustaining members. o Malcom was authorized to get our outboard moter tuned up. o Get your dues in. The combination on the Club equipment shed will be changed April first. Respecfully, Art Schick
April 2004 Meeting:
The boat removal ramp design idea was given the thumbs up by the members at the meeting on Saturday. Susan Laraway and her fiancé will be building the ramp. Come to the May meeting and check it out.
The race schedule has been set. Races will be the first Saturday of each month following the meeting. We will also be participating in the BBSA races on May 8th and 22nd, and June 5th. Check the website for specific times and added dates. We are hoping the deli may be sponsoring some more races too.
SOCIAL SAILS! The schedule has been set. PSC will hold a social sail on the last Sunday of each month at 1pm. The themes are May 23rd- Springtime & Flowers; June 27th – Pirates; July 25th – Red White and Blue; August 29th – Tropical. Susan or Art will have their boats and BBQ available. So far the menu is; bring your own sandwiches or meat to cook on the BBQ, and drinks. The destination on May 23rd is Illahee State Park. Ed Hover is the point of contact, please let him know if you plan to attend. Come join the fun!
Open House: The status is the same, Susan is going to make a flyer and email it hopefully in the next day or two. Our May 1st meeting will also be a work party. Please come down and help out. We are trying our best to improve the boats with some new lines, hiking straps etc. All hands are needed to help the boats looking their best for the Open House.
We are still waiting on insurance quotes. The good word is the Port may be very kind in our lease cost if our insurance cost is astronomical.
The boat shed combination has been changed. If you have paid your dues and have not been given the combination, contact Andy Campbell.
PSC is going to have T-shirts professionally made. The current design is on the website on the Links page. Any ideas? As always……YOUR INPUT IS NEEDED!!! Please contact Susan at 662-0413 or email bernina27@yahoo.com.
Lesson 2: Right of Way Rules 1) When one boat is overtaking another, the slower one has right of way. 2) When the two boats are on different tacks; the one on starboard tack has right of way. 3) If both boats are on the same tack, the leeward (downwind) boat has right of way. 4) All water areas inside the breakwaters of the Brownsville Marina have been designated as narrow channels as defined by the U.S. Inland Rules of the Road. Therefore, a sailboat or any other craft does NOT have the right-of-way over another vessel based solely on its method of propulsion. If you have right of way, hold your course and signal the other boat. If they don't respond, change your course to avoid the collision.
Local Events: None identified---does anyone out there know of anything??
Tales: Please submit your ‘Tales’ to Susan. Tell us about your best day sailing, your worst day sailing or maybe something important you may have learned while sailing.
Welcome to the Tell Tale’s new format. Here you will find out what’s going on in the club and hopefully learn something new. Each edition will let you know a brief overview of the month’s meeting, a lesson in the art of sailing, what’s going on locally and maybe a ‘tale’ from one of the members. Enjoy!
March Meeting:
There’s no need to go to the gym anymore just to be able to get the boats in and out of the water. Susan Laraway has been named to chair a Committee to design and build a way for one person to remove and store the boats on the dock. It was also decided that due to lack of room, only three C-Larks and the Laser will be kept on the dock. As always please give us your input. Susan’s email is bernina27@yahoo.com .
OPEN HOUSE! This is the big event, the one that keeps the club in existence due to new members. Susan will be creating a flyer that she will email to everyone. We’re asking that the members print and distribute as many copies as they can to friends, family, and co-workers and anywhere you think we might interest someone new! We have the most affordable sailing on the Kitsap Peninsula by far, let’s keep it that way by keeping the club going. Your support is needed.
Insurance issues are still up in the air. We have a reprieve from the Port. The way insurance quotes and membership are going now, dues will have to be raised in 2005 if we are mandated to pay insurance. Ed and Susan will be groveling at the next Port Commissioner’s meeting.
Spring is in the air, and spring cleaning is on some members’ minds. A “To Do” list will be posted in the boat shed. Feel free to ‘honey-do’ and/or add to the list.
The IRS gives you until April 15th, PSC gives you until March 31st to pay up. The boat shed combination will be changed on April 1st (no joke). Members who have paid their dues will be given the new combination. Dues can be mailed to Andy Campbell or Ed Hover.
FOR SALE: The windsurfer is going to be sold as is. Last chance for any objections.
Meeting members expressed excitement at the idea of becoming more involved with the BBSA (Burke Bay Sailing Association). Susan is going to contact BBSA for race events and captains needing crew. Heck, their logo is a flamingo and a cheeseburger, they can’t be all that bad! More news to follow.
This of course led to a discussion about our own sailing events and adding SOCIAL SAILS! Some ideas were theme sails to a destination where ice cold beer (um I mean refreshments) would be waiting. Not to mention a sizzling BBQ. Check out the websites www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Rapids/1114 and http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/duckdodge/lst to see what fun they have on Lake Union in Seattle every Tuesday night from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Sailing is different things for different people. As always we are looking for your input on how to make the club exciting and fun.
Ed·u·ca·tion (ej´oo kā shen), n. the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge. Have you read the PSC Constitution? We are an amateur club. PSC is a great resource for sailors to hone their skills and parents to teach their children. Officers are not forgetting the club’s roots and are hoping to set up designated times for Skippers to volunteer sailing with non-Skippers for them to gain experience and education.
And last but not least, Puget Sound Computer Services (PSCS) has donated web hosting for PSC. Our new spam and pop-up free website is www.peninsulasailingclub.org. The site is up and running with more information to be added. Please contact Susan to tell her how it looks on your browser. It turns out in the complicated world of web design that pages look different depending on the browser (Microsoft Explorer, Netscape, etc) and on different versions of the browser.
Lesson 1: Docking
Always approach the leeward (downwind) side of the dock on a close reach, so that you can control the boat's speed and direction. Start your approach from a point well downwind of the dock, so that you have plenty of room. Note the wind direction and strength at the dock, and check carefully for boats that may be leaving the dock. Let the crew know that they'll have to go forward to tie the boat up. If you're alone, get someone on the dock to catch your boat, come in alongside another docked boat and grasp it, or run forward yourself as the boat reaches the dock. If you have a problem docking or leaving the dock, never try to jibe the boat next to the fuel dock. Instead, head the boat up toward the dock, even if this means drifting gently into the dock.
Local Events: The Port Orchard Yacht Club’s annual swap meet/ garage sale is being held Apr 3rd on Bay St in Port Orchard.
Well I hope you enjoyed this month’s newsletter. As always please keep in touch with comments and suggestions.

Meeting Schedule Monthly club meetings have been changed to the first Saturday of every month at 9 am except for July. The July meeting is on the 10th at 9 am.
Budget Last month a new mast was purchased and the non-profit organization fee was paid.
The following budget items were identified for the current year: Outstanding obligations - Port Moorage, Secretary of State fee Foreseeable expenditures - Outboard servicing, open house expenses, miscellaneous repair and cleaning supplies
Attending members agreed upon a budget of $185 to be spent by the officers without vote on the above expenditures.
It was brought to everyone’s attention that there is a $5.00 discount ! on membership dues (NOW DUE!) if paid by March 1st. Dues may be mailed Andy Campbell or Ed Hover (see below for addresses) and are due by April 1, 2004. Last year the combination was changed on this date. The combination may be changed again if members have not paid their dues.
Status of insurance The club is still waiting on quotes from insurance brokers. We have been given an extension from the Port. Ed is going to contact the port lawyer concerning liability issues and insurance for the club officers.
Open House Planning/Membership
The open house will be held on May 15th, 2004 at 10 am. WE NEED IDEAS!! How can we get more members? Who wants to be part of our club? Our club exists due to its’ members. Attending members agreed we should post the open house in the Bremerton Sun and affiliate papers with much advance notice. Last year Kelly Flynn took the time to drive around and post flyers on the Navy bases. This year we need EVERYONE’S help to get the word out about our club.
Membership brainstorming, as discussed in December, was discussed again. Some ideas are: -Get the website address out there on the street, at marinas, to sailors, at the college and to the sailing community -Put our monthly meetings in the Bremerton Sun and affiliates -Put notices/flyers up in pertinent areas (Cat’s Paw boat shop, Poulsbo marina, Olympic College…) -Put notices in local sailing magazines (48ºN)
Everyone agreed that we must have a way to get the boats in and out of the water. IDEAS ARE WELCOME! We have Teflon strips and the Port has told us the dock space is ours to use/mount what we need. Everyone agreed we need a solution by the open house.
Race schedule discussion
As before, we discussed the idea of ‘group sailing’ and potluck parties replacing racing. It was brought to light that some members have joined with the hopes of learning from current skippers, but it never happened. Group sailing and potluck functions would bring the members together and provide a learning experience for non-skippers. Racing is not scheduled to start until April and WE NEED MEMBERS INPUT ON THIS IDEA!
Open discussion
Due to the democratic caucus, the meeting was cut short. However, Andy, Susan and Judy stuck around and talked about more education for the club, including a library, and copies of the U.S. Navy Sailing Course booklet, of which Susan has a copy. Downfalls of a library are losing the materials due to non-return.
Andy has found the part to fix the windsurfer and asked for ideas on how much we could sell it for. Susan volunteered to do the selling if needed.
Fundraising ideas were also mentioned. Please bring your ideas to the next meeting or direct them to Ed Hover or Susan Laraway

Thanks to all who attended our final meeting of the year and first club potluck social. We had wonderful food and a great time. A big THANK YOU to Ed Hover for opening his home to us all.
Our meeting was very successful. We elected new PSC officers for 2004. They are:
Ed Hover, Commodore Steve Trunkey, Vice Commodore Chris Quinn, Rear Commodore Andy Campbell, Treasurer Susan Laraway, Secretary
Thanks to all of you who agreed to serve and give your time and energy to the club. Thanks, especially to Ed Hover, who will be serving his third term as Commodore, and to Jim Brady, who served tirelessly for many years as our Treasurer and formerly as our Commodore. We appreciate all of your hard work!
Fundraising Also at our meeting, we discussed potential fundraising events that we could hold next year, including a car wash, community yard sale and possibly soliciting for donations of used boats to sell. We have not yet decided whether to participate in the Rotary Club’s annual duck race, which we’ve discussed in past meetings. Money from any fundraising efforts could be used for boat repairs, new sails, rigging to help lift the C-Larks off of the dock more easily and possibly even new boats.
Anyone with other fundraising suggestions, please direct them to Ed Hover.
Membership We discussed ideas of how to increase club membership, including advertising in local sailing publications, at local boating stores and at military bases. As always, we welcome your ideas and input.
Meetings/Races Members voted to tentatively approve the meeting and racing schedule for next year, with the possibility of making changes as needed in the future.

Officer Elections All officer positions in the club are up for re-election. A description of each position is listed below. If you are interested in holding a position, or you would like to nominate someone else, please let Ed Hover know (ehover@telebyte.net).
Commodore: Commands the squadron; presides at all meetings; appoints committee leaders; administers the policies established by the Peninsula Sailing Club.
Vice Commodore: Presides over all PSC events, except for racing events; responsible for operation and maintenance of all PSC facilities; assists the Commodore; presides in Commodore’s absence at any meeting.
Rear Commodore: Governs all racing events; compiles all data of each racing events with the help of the Regatta Committee.
Treasurer: Collects all PSC dues, fees and other funds; distributes funds per the approved budget or as approved at PSC meetings; keeps complete and accurate records of all transactions; maintains membership roster; provides a status report of membership and financial condition at each PSC meeting.
Secretary: Maintains a true and complete copy of all PSC meeting proceedings; edits and e-mails the Tell Tale newsletter; notifies members of meetings and other events; prepares and answers mail; retains all official business records of PSC; provides new members with the Constitution, By-Laws, Sailing Rules, Liability Release and any other PSC information.
Club Social We’ll vote for next year’s officers during December’s meeting. We have changed the date from Dec. 6 to Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. This will be a potluck club social, tentatively planned at Ed Hover’s house. Kids are welcome! We’ll have more details in next month’s newsletter.
This will be a great opportunity to get to know other club members! Please mark it on your calendar and plan to bring a dish to share. Contact Ed Hover if you plan to attend. Let him know how many people are coming and what dish you would like to bring. (Brownies are already spoken for!) This is sure to be a fun evening!
Boat Repairs Andy Campbell was kind enough to donate some wood to replace a broken cleat mount on one of the C-Larks. He plans to make the repair as soon as possible. He also hopes to fix the broken piece on the wind surfer, so the club can sell it. Thanks for your hard work and enthusiasm Andy!
PSC Fundraiser Andy Campbell is also doing some of the legwork needed for PSC to participate in the Silverdale Rotary Club’s annual duck race next summer. This is a wonderful opportunity for our little club to bring in some big bucks to help buy new sails and pay for boat repairs. If we are selected to participate, ALL MEMBERS will be required to sell tickets to the duck race, beginning next Spring. Your participation will count toward the volunteer hours you are required to serve as stated in the PSC membership rules.
I cannot overstate the importance of this event should the Rotary choose us to participate. The money raised will directly benefit PSC. If we are successful in selling tickets, then we would mostly likely be allowed to participate in the future. If we do not sell enough tickets, then we will not be allowed to return the following year and we will have to come up with other fundraising ideas.
Club Sail Thanks to all who participated in our first club sail on September 13. A very special THANK YOU to Steve Trunkey, who used his own keelboat as our safety boat and towed us through the lulls. It was a light wind and we decided to go to Keyport instead of Poulsbo. Tying up on the small dock there proved to be a learning experience for all of us, but we made it and enjoyed a fabulous lunch at Whiskey Creek Steak House. We had a very nice, steady breeze on the way back, and everyone enjoyed a very fun day. We hope to see even more participation next time.
Next Meeting: November 1, 2003, 10 a.m. in the Deli

Club Sail Saturday, September 13 we are holding our first club sail. If the weather is good and there is enough wind, we’ll head to Poulsbo for lunch and then sail back. Everyone is responsible for paying for their own meals. If there isn’t a lot of wind, but the weather is still nice for sailing, we’ll try heading to Illahee State Park instead. Please bring along some drinks and snacks to share. Call or e-mail Kelly Flynn at 698-1951 or FlynnDargel2@juno.com by 5 p.m. Friday to RSVP with the number of people attending. Plan to meet on the dock no later than 8:00 Saturday morning. Please dress warmly and have along rain gear. Also, if you have extra lines, a first-aid kit or other safety gear, please bring them along.
Boat Repairs Several repairs still need to be made, including purchasing some new cleats and locating Teflon strips to attach to the dock to help slide the boats into the water. If anyone knows where we can find some inexpensive scrap Teflon, please contact Ed Hover at ehover@telebyte.net.
Members also discussed the possibility of holding a fundraiser next year to purchase new sails.
Racing An additional race has been added to the schedule. It will be at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 26. Depending on the weather, this could be the last race of the year, so come on down to the dock and have some fun!
An idea was presented for next year to hold match racing, where members race one-on-one and then race the winners of the other individual races. This method would allow members to set up their own racing times, making it more flexible for people’s schedules. Please come to our upcoming meetings to discuss this or other ideas, or e-mail Ed Hover to let him know if you would be interested in match racing for next season.
Officer Nominations We’re starting to think about officer nominations for next year. All positions – Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Treasurer and Secretary -- are up for grabs. If you are interested in one of these positions, or if there is somebody you’d like to nominate, please let Ed Hover know. Nominees will be announced at the November meeting. We’ll vote for next year’s officers during December’s meeting, which we’re considering making a potluck event at someone’s house. If you’re interested in hosting December’s meeting, please let Ed Hover know.
Next Race: Friday, September 26, 4 p.m.
Next Meeting: October 4, 2003, 10 a.m. at the dock if the weather is nice, otherwise in the deli

Boat cleats have been replaced on several boats and fiberglass repairs have been made on our new C-Lark. A few other boat repairs still need to be made. Rick Brooks will attend to some of them.
Ed proposed holding regattas on Monday evenings. Kelly proposed doing a group sail to Poulsbo and having lunch after a Saturday meeting (provided there is enough wind). Please let Ed (ehover@telebyte.net) know if you would be interested in these events.
In addition to our regularly scheduled races, informal races for all boaters are taking place on Friday evenings at 6:00. This is a five-race series being organized by Rick Brooks, who lives at the marina and has just joined the Peninsula Sailing Club. There is a $10 charge to participate in the series (to cover the cost of soda and beer, which will be given out as prizes). The first race took place last Friday, but it’s not too late to join in the fun. The skippers’ meeting (to learn the course and pay your fee) begins at 5:00 at the deli and warm-up starts at 5:50. Even if you can’t make the meeting, come on out at race time and pay your fee afterward.
We have a race scheduled on Friday, August 15 at 5:30. We plan to go ahead with our race as planned. Anyone interested in participating in both races (ours at 5:30 and the other one at 6:00) is encouraged to do so.
Thanks to all who participated in our last meeting and race. We had all four C-Larks out on the water and the wind was pretty cooperative for a while. We held four races and some of them were neck-and-neck going around the marks and crossing the finish. We all had a great time and hope to see even more members at the next event.

Members voted to buy and replace several boat cleats.
We now have our new C-Lark, however the bow needs some fiberglass repair. Please refrain from using the boat with the blue deck until repairs have been made.
We’re still considering ideas to more easily hoist the C-Larks in and out of the water. Please let Ed Hover know if you have any suggestions. A work party will be announced once plans are in place.
Please remember to sign in and out when you take a boat out. Also, be sure to keep the boatshed neat and orderly by putting things back where you found them. All battens should be removed from sails and sails should be folded neatly, but DO NOT FOLD THE PLASTIC WINDOWS! If your sail is wet, hang it in the rafters, but please return later once it’s dry and put it away. Do not rely on others to clean up after you.
Don’t forget about our weekly races (or regattas if participants choose to do that instead). We’ve planned them on various days of the week to meet everyone’s different schedules. Even if you’ve never raced before, come out, meet your fellow club members and have some fun while the weather and wind are cooperating!

Group Sails Numerous races are already planned for this season. Some members have expressed interest in turning some of the scheduled races in regattas instead, possibly potluck events. The members present agreed with the idea and any such events will be announced by e-mail as dates are agreed upon, or will be decided upon by those who show up at race time.
Open House Thank you to all who helped plan and execute our annual open house. We have five new members, two renewing members and applications are still coming in!
Boat Damage We have broken the self-bailing flap on the underside of the Laser. This plastic piece breaks easily when the plug in the cockpit is not closed as you pull the boat onto the dock. That plug should be CLOSED, which causes the flap to lie flush with the bottom of the hull as the boat is dragged onto the dock.
Damage has also been done to the hull from people dragging it over the dock cleat. We are currently working to replace the broken flap and also build a cradle for the boat to rest in, which hopefully will minimize damage. Once it is in place, please use it. Any further damage will be the financial responsibility of the last person who used the boat.
So remember, before putting the Laser in the water, make sure both plugs (in the cockpit and by the rudder) are closed. Keep them closed until the boat is back on the dock, and then open the rear plug (by the rudder) to allow any water that seeped inside the hull to drain out.
Let’s all work together to keep our boats in good working order. It takes all of us to keep our fleet afloat!
Next Meeting: July 12, 2003 at the Dock

Open House We need as many people as possible to help out with the open house this Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We have publicized the event in local newspapers and on BKAT television, and we have distributed flyers all across the region, from Port Townsend to Gig Harbor, so we expect to see a great turnout! But it will only be a success with your help! We need people to arrive early to help rig the boats and we especially need greeters on the dock to help answer questions and gather information. Experienced sailors (PSC members only) are needed to take potential new members for a sail as well. We hope to see you all there!

New C-Lark At our last meeting, the members voted to purchase Steve Trunkey’s C-Lark. It is in excellent condition and means the PSC will have a working fleet of six C-Larks plus another one to use for parts. Members also agreed to start looking into fixing and selling the wind surfer.
Motor Repair The outboard motor for the inflatable needs servicing. Ed Hover will take it to be fixed so it will be ready for the racing season.

Open House We are busy preparing for our May 10th open house. We have already sent information to Bremerton Kitsap Access Television (BKAT) for its Community Calendar. We also plan to seek publicity from the various local newspapers, as well as post fliers at marinas, boating supply stores, ferry terminals and Olympic College. We’d appreciate any and all assistance in getting the word out. If you’d like to receive the flier to hand out to friends, at your place of business or anywhere else, please e-mail Ed Hover at (ehover@telebyte.net) or call him at 377-1296 and he’ll e-mail you the flier.
On the day of the Open House, we hope to use the Brownsville Yacht Club’s room (above the deli) to greet potential members and show a video. Then they’ll be directed to the dock, where they may take boat rides if they wish, and also receive information about the club. The open house is scheduled for 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Volunteers Needed Volunteers are needed to help with this effort! We will need several people to help greet visitors in the room above the deli, as well as greet people at the dock, help get their information, hand out club information, help rig the boats and take prospective members for rides.
We need extra adult-size life jackets for use on the day of the open house. If you have any available for use, please take them to the dock on the morning of May 10th. Please make sure they are well labeled so we can get them back to you promptly.
Next Meeting: May 3, 2003 at the Dock Please attend our next meeting at 10 a.m. on May 3rd! We will be finalizing plans for the open house, cleaning the boats and making any final repairs so they’ll look great for prospective members. The boats are in pretty good shape already so this shouldn’t take very long. Please bring rags, sponges, brushes, non-abrasive soap and proper clothing.
If you know of sailing-related activities and events that may be of interest to other PSC members, please contact Kelly Flynn at 360-698-1951 or flynndargel2@juno.com to have it placed in the newsletter.

Boat Maintenance: A very special THANK YOU to all who attended our last meeting and work party. The boats look good as new again and the boatshed is clean and well organized. Let’s all make an effort to keep everything clean and orderly throughout the upcoming sailing season!
The two boats that needed fiberglass repairs have been fixed and returned to the marina. Thanks to those of you involved in the repairs and moving the boats to and from the workshop. It was a big job and we couldn’t have done it without you!
High School Sailing Team: Saturday, March 8, a representative of Central Kitsap High School will look over the boats to determine whether they are in good enough shape to be used in a high school sailing program. We’ll keep you posted.
Ed attended a port commissioners’ meeting. They have received our dues for the year and Ed says they are interested in PSC’s possible involvement with a high school sailing team.
Taxes: Ed received a letter from the IRS. Every few years the IRS requires the club to turn in a form showing our non-profit status and that we don’t owe any taxes. Ed will take care of returning the form.
Open House: We need to start thinking about getting the word out for this year’s open house, scheduled for May 10. Ed will look into newspaper coverage and Kelly will contact Bremerton Kitsap Access Television (BKAT) to see what publicity it may provide. Please encourage your friends to come out for the event. If you have other suggestions to help get the word out, please e-mail Ed Hover (ehover@telebyte.net) or Kelly Flynn (flynndargel2@juno.com).
